The Prince of Wales Set to Attend COP30 Climate Summit in Brazil
The Prince of Wales will represent the United Nations climate conference in South America during November, as confirmed by palace sources.
Prince William and King Charles appeared together on Thursday evening at a reception leading up to the environmental conference, which is set to be held in the Amazonian city of Belém.
The royal pair were participating in the scientific institution event, marking an rare public appearance together at a pre-COP30 gathering co-hosted by the UK government.
Climate Leadership Commitment
The King has been a long-time champion of protecting nature - and the Prince of Wales has inherited the mission, with his own climate innovation awards, which will be taking place in South America preceding the COP summit.
Palace insiders have described William's involvement at the forthcoming conference as stepping up an significant responsibility in "environmental negotiations".
Previous Activities
The monarch and his heir, making a joint entrance in the official car, were welcomed attendees such as environmentalists, scientists, climate change campaigners, diplomats and politicians.
This involvement included speaking alongside French leader Macron of the French Republic and other international figures at the Marine Economy Conference in the Principality of Monaco during the current year.
Environmental Prize Link
The climate conference will coincide with the William's personal Earthshot environmental awards, which will conclude in the Brazilian city the eve of he participates in the COP summit on the sixth of November.
In recent days the royal figure referred to the prize competitors as "modern-day pioneers".
Monarch's Environmental Record
King Charles has been a key figure at past COP meetings, giving the opening address in Dubai for the 28th Conference of Parties, including the reminder: "We are custodians of the planet, not its owners".
"For decades I've committed a substantial portion of my life trying to warn of the survival risks confronting humanity over planetary heating, climate change and species extinction," the King told attendees.
